ALBERT!

The Coolest Dog in Cyberspace

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My fancy name is "Christman’s Prince Albert CD, NA, NAJ", but you can call me "Albert". (That's me typing on the 'puter.) I am a Boston Terrier. Sometimes, people confuse me with a Pug, a Bull Dog or a Frenchie. Boston Terriers are one of few dog breeds that originated in United States. (Please see the Boston Terrier section of my site for more information about my breed, but read the rest of my story first.)

I was born on St. Patrick’s Day at the kennel of Charnette’s Bostons. My breeder is Jeanette Mellon. My dog mom and dad are Charnette’s Razzle Dazzle and CH. Sunwood’s Encore. "CH" in front of my dog dad’s name means he is a champion show dog. I don’t remember much about my dog mom and dad because my human parents adopted me when I was 8 weeks old. That was back in 1992. I do remember the long car ride back to my new home, a place called San Jose, California. I slept on my new mom’s lap most of the way.

My human mom and dad are Bill and Janet. My dad, who I call "the big guy", is an "Engine-Ear" who works in the ’puter business in Silicon Valley. He’s always busy, and we only get to play at night after he eats his dinner. But it’s OK, because I get to sleep in the bed next to him. He and I have a ritual we call "chin lick". I climb onto his lap and lick his chin. We do this every night. Dad wouldn't do this with Maggie, or with Gypsy, but only with me because I'm his little boy.

My Mom was working for a television station, but she got laid off, so she stays home now. Which doesn’t mean she plays with us all the time. She’s been busy doing home improvement. If you asked me, I’d say "bigger food bowl, more toys and a patch of lawn in the living room!" Now that’s home improvement.

My job title at home is "the Supervisor" because I look over everything and everyone, especially the two other dogs that live in the house. (More about them later.) I’m also my Mom’s obedience and agility dog. Did you see the initials after my fancy name? The "CD", "NA", and "NAJ" are my official Obedience and Agility title. "CD" stands for "Companion Dog" and it means I qualified three times, under three different judges at a novice level of AKC Obedience trial. I also have two legs towards my "CDX" (Companion Dog Excellent) title that is the next level up. The "NA" and "NAJ" stand for "Novice Agility" and "Novice Agility Jumpers" and they are AKC Agility titles. I have one leg towards my "OA" which is "Open Agility" title. I still compete, but not as much since I’m mostly retired. I also have a "CGC" certificate from AKC from passing the "Canine Good Citizen" test a few years back.

My Mom is trying to teach me tracking. Gypsy, my housemate did tracking a few years ago and she says tracking is fun because you get to step in cow poop. But then, she’s a Doberman and she smells like cow poop sometimes. I’d rather track bread crumbs on the linoleum in the kitchen. No cow poop for me!

I share a house with two other dogs and two tanks full of tropical fish. The fishes are from someplace called Africa. One of the tanks has a fish called Steatocranus tinanti (boy, that's a mouthful) from the Congo River basin and other one is a Cichlid from the Tanganyika Lake. Mom also has in those tanks a very UGLY fish called Plecostomus that is supposed to keep the tanks clean. I call 'em the "sucker" fish, because they have a big mouth and they're always sucking things off the side of the fish tank.

"Gypsy" is a Doberman Pinscher. She came into MY domain about 6 month after I came to live with my human Mom and Dad. (Read more about Gypsy in her section.) She and I get along really well. She doesn't bother me and I don't bother her. And a few times that she did bother me, I asserted my position and reminded her who’s the boss. She knew her place and everything was well with this pack until that "thing" came along. That "thing" is "Maggie".

Now I don’t understand what Mom and Dad were thinking. For a long, long time, it’s always been Dad, Mom, Gypsy and me, and one day, that "thing" appeared. This little, obnoxious, "thing" who didn’t know it’s place, who kept challenging my position. Now, that made me mad. It bit Mom, it bit Dad, it bit Gypsy, and it bit me! Mom called her "Cujo" and Dad called her "Monster". I wanted it gone, but Mom and Dad explained that Maggie was an only puppy, and that she didn’t learn the proper doggie behavior that most puppies learn from playing with it’s littermates. She asked Gypsy and I to help guide this puppy. What can I say? That was a couple of years ago. Thankfully, she learned some valuable lessons from us and she settled into our pack nicely. She’s OK, but she’s still "a thing!" (Read more about Maggie in her section.)

These are stories about us…two Bostons and a Doberman who thinks she’s a Boston. I hope you enjoy my site.

Love,
Albert
